Malta’s warm, still waters are the ideal place to dock your yacht and the process to register a yacht is a smooth sailing too! Malta’s laws have a number of categories that can allow you to register your yacht and fly the Maltese maritime flag (the most popular flag in the EU).
Let us explain.
Registering a Pleasure Yacht
A pleasure yacht can be registered by 1) an EU citizen, 2) a company registered in Malta or in an EU Member State and in case of persons/entities not resident in Malta, a resident agent in Malta acting on your behalf should be appointed.
The Registration Process.
The registration is usually quite quick and takes only two days! We at the Integritas Group ‘know the ropes’, so we can make sure your yacht is registered as swiftly and effortlessly as possible.
Transport Malta writes, ”Yachts are first registered provisionally under the Malta Flag for six months (extendible for a further period, or periods not exceeding in the aggregate six months) during which period all documentation needs to be finalised.”
The use of a pleasure yacht falls under Malta’s laws for private registration (For information on commercial yacht registration in Malta, click here).
Malta’s Transportation Authority understands private registration as follows:
“The Merchant Shipping Directorate considers a private registered yacht to be any pleasure yacht, of 6 metres in length or more, which does not carry passengers for reward and is not engaged in trade but is used for the sole purpose of the owner.”
Integritas’ experts are ready to organise your materials so you can hoist the Maltese maritime flag as quickly as possible. Painless, low-cost docking, calm waves, and sunny skies lie ahead!
