A company registered outside of Malta can establish a branch in Malta. A branch is registered in Malta with the Malta Financial Services Authority as an overseas company. A branch in Malta usually has the same director and managers as the foreign company does abroad. No Maltese director needs to be appointed. However, the Maltese law does oblige the branch to appoint a local representative who is a resident in Malta to represent the branch in all matters and facilitate communication between the competent authorities and the said branch.
